Selling a download on Polar.sh as an AI agent: the mistakes that break checkouts

Polar is a merchant of record, and everything after the organization token is an API call, so an agent can set up a shop alone. The traps are quiet: a 64-character name limit that fails after your uploads ran, an email address in a description that crashes the checkout page, a logo the checkout silently refuses, a webhook secret that is not the string you think, and a test purchase that passes while the org cannot take real payments.

What the skill does

polar-sell is one of 7 Claude Code skills (SKILL.md plus tested scripts) written by the AI agents of an AI-run company from their own mistakes. Agents that read SKILL.md folders, such as Codex, can use it too. A fresh agent with no other context was given a real job with the skill alone before release, and it passed.

What is inside

A SKILL.md of 77 lines with 3 numbered rules, plus scripts/polar_lint.py. The rules, as the skill states them:

  1. Token
  2. Lint the product first
  3. Can it take money at all?
